Thoughts & Themes From SHiFT Conference 2026

PSM at SHiFT: A Day of Insight, Energy & Industry Progress

Yesterday we had the pleasure of attending the SHiFT Conference and what a day it turned out to be. As both sponsors and speakers we were proud to stand alongside so many forward thinking professionals who are shaping the future of health safety and compliance across the UK. The atmosphere throughout the day was positive and driven with a clear sense that our industry is evolving at pace.

SHiFT has always been known for bringing together a strong mix of voices and this year was no different. Leaders from construction, manufacturing and consultancy shared their experiences and challenges openly which created a space for honest discussion and meaningful learning.

We were especially proud to see our CEO, Alex, take to the stage as one of the conference speakers. The session focused on the importance of CDM training, specifically for the telecoms industry. The message was clear. Compliance alone is not enough. Organisations need to embed expert industry knowledge into everyday decision making and empower people at every level to take ownership. The response from the audience reflected how relevant this message is right now.

A major theme throughout the day was the growing complexity of compliance. With increasing regulatory pressure and a stronger focus on accountability many organisations are finding it harder to keep pace. CDM responsibilities in particular continue to raise questions. Duty holders are looking for clarity and confidence in their roles. There is a clear shift towards proactive planning rather than reactive fixes which is a positive step for the industry.

Another strong trend is the integration of management systems across businesses. ISO standards are no longer viewed as standalone frameworks. Instead, they are becoming part of a wider strategy that supports resilience quality and sustainability. Conversations around ISO 45001 and ISO 9001 highlighted how organisations are using these standards not just to meet requirements but to drive real improvement.

Technology also featured heavily in discussions. Digital tools are helping teams manage risk more effectively and provide better visibility across projects. However, the consensus is that technology must support people rather than replace good judgement. Training and competence remain critical. Without the right knowledge, even the best systems will fall short.

What stood out most throughout the conference was the openness of the conversations. Delegates were willing to share the challenges they are facing. Skills shortages, evolving regulations and increasing project complexity were common themes. Yet there was also a strong sense of optimism. The industry is adapting and there is a real appetite to do better.

As a sponsor we were delighted to connect with so many attendees across the day. It gave us the opportunity to listen and understand where support is needed most. Many conversations came back to the same point. Businesses want clear guidance practical training and systems that actually work in the real world.

This is exactly where we can help. At Pro Safety Management we support organisations across CDM training and ISO standards in a way that is straightforward and effective. Whether it is helping duty holders understand their responsibilities or guiding businesses through ISO certification, our focus is always on making compliance manageable and meaningful.

We believe that training should build confidence not confusion. Our CDM courses are designed to give people the knowledge they need to carry out their roles with clarity. At the same time our ISO support helps organisations create systems that are not just compliant, but genuinely useful. The goal is always long term improvement rather than short term fixes.

Recommendations

Events like SHiFT remind us why this work matters. They bring the industry together and highlight both the progress being made and the challenges ahead. The conference this year has shown that while the landscape is changing the commitment to safer, better workplaces remains strong.

As always, it was a privilege to be part of such an important event and to contribute to the conversation. We look forward to building on the connections made and continuing to support businesses as they navigate an evolving industry.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to speak with us and to the organisers for delivering another excellent conference. SHiFT continues to set the standard and we are proud to be part of it.
