September Round-Up: Client Delivery, Leadership & Assurance
TL;DR:
September saw PSM supporting clients across telecoms, utilities, infrastructure and technology with CDM governance, contractor assurance, project delivery, audit and management systems. We also brought senior industry leaders together in London to discuss CDM leadership, responsible AI and the future of construction safety.
September covered a broad mix of work across telecoms, utilities, infrastructure and technology — from CDM governance and contractor assurance to site support, audits, ISO and project documentation.
We also ended the month by bringing senior leaders together in London for our latest Director & SLT Roundtable.
Supporting clients across complex infrastructure delivery
CDM governance & contractor assurance
BVS · char.gy · Vodafone
We supported clients to strengthen contractor assurance, clarify CDM responsibilities and improve governance across dispersed infrastructure programmes.
For BVS, this included strengthening contractor due diligence, onboarding controls and evidence requirements. For char.gy, we supported projects across multiple UK locations with PCI reviews and Principal Designer oversight. With Vodafone, we continued supporting CDM governance across National Grid and National Gas activity through documentation reviews and regular governance meetings.
Project assurance & live delivery
Dale Power · NPS
We provided both site-level and strategic assurance on complex live projects.
For Dale Power, our support included temporary works, RAMS, lift plans and CDM documentation alongside ongoing project engagement. At NPS, we supported contractor management, site auditing and programme oversight, with an additional governance review of the quality of the assurance being provided.
Audit, risk & organisational improvement
Eminencetel · Vecta Labs · Jet Networks
Across a number of clients, we carried out independent reviews designed to identify gaps, strengthen internal arrangements and turn findings into practical actions.
This included health and safety auditing, support with internal H&S documentation and HAVS requirements, alongside a fire risk assessment and action plan.
Management systems & project controls
Hughes Group · InFlow
We also supported clients to strengthen the systems and documentation underpinning delivery.
For Hughes Group, this meant developing more robust Construction Phase Plan arrangements. For InFlow, we continued supporting ISO 27001 through control reviews, audit outputs and corrective actions.
Director & SLT Roundtable: what senior leaders are focusing on now
On 29 September, Pro Safety Management brought together senior health and safety leaders from across telecoms and infrastructure to discuss three issues that are becoming harder for boards and senior teams to ignore: CDM leadership across dispersed operations, responsible AI oversight, and the capability organisations will need to manage construction risk in the future.
The session included leaders from Arqiva, United Infrastructure, Vodafone Group, Cellnex UK, MBNL, EMR Integrated Solutions and BT Group, alongside an AI specialist guest speaker.
01 — CDM leadership across dispersed operations
A major theme was how senior leaders maintain meaningful oversight when work is spread across large numbers of sites, contractors and project teams.
The group focused on five practical actions: set clear expectations, embed CDM into normal business decision-making, create routes for difficult information to reach senior leaders, spend time where work is actually happening, and use site visits to learn rather than simply audit.
02 — Responsible AI oversight
The second discussion looked at how AI is beginning to influence safety-critical work.
The priority was clear: accountability must remain with people.
Leaders discussed the need for named ownership, clear boundaries around acceptable AI use, appropriate security controls, competent human review and regular oversight as the technology develops.
03 — Preparing for construction safety in 2035
The final session looked beyond current risks and towards the capability organisations will need in the years ahead.
Succession planning, resilience, cross-industry collaboration and future leadership behaviours all featured strongly, with the group agreeing that organisations need to start developing these capabilities now rather than waiting until the gap becomes urgent.
Turning the discussion into something practical
The findings have now been captured in our Key Safety Leadership Actions for Telecoms & Utilities report, which includes practical self-assessments across CDM leadership, AI oversight and future leadership capability.
